UW Men's Basketball Notebook: Not in Last Place!
Week of February 10 - 16: Washington tries to keep momentum building toward a Big 10 tournament berth
Overall Record: 12-11
Big 10 Record: 3-9
Net Ranking: 92
Last Week’s Recap
Washington blew a ten point lead at half as the Nebraska Cornhuskers rallied to beat the Huskies 86-72 last Wednesday at Alaska Airlines Arena. While Washington hit their first eight 3’s, the Huskers shot 11 of 19 from deep as Washington searched for answers all second half. The answers never came.
On Saturday night, the Huskies overcame a second half blown lead and held on for a 76-71 victory over Northwestern. Head coach Chris Collins didn’t want to watch as he was tossed from the game in the first half and the Wildcats never recovered. DJ Davis hit a big late three and the Huskies recorded their third win of conference play (only one behind Northwestern and Minnesota with tiebreaker in hand).
Player of the Week
Back to back honors for Tyler Harris as he continues his resurgence for the Dawgs. Against Nebraska, Harris pulled down a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. In the contest against Northwestern, Harris scored 18 points to go with five rebounds.
Stat of the Week
The Huskies hit 18 of 47 three pointers this week for a shooting percentage of 38.3%. Much of this hot streak comes from Tyler Harris who is 11 for 16 from three over the past three games.
This Coming Week
Washington travels to Ohio State on Wednesday, February 12th at 5:30 pm (Big 10 network).
This will be an extremely tough game for the Dawgs. Ohio State is led by two really good guards in Bruce Thornton and John Mobley, Jr. Thorton is an absolute dawg, putting up 17.3 points per game while shooting an insane 45.6% from three point range. Micah Parrish is no slouch either as he put up 30 points against Nebraska in the Buckeyes’ last game.
Washington continues their road trip at Penn State for a 11:00 am tip on Saturday, February 15th (Big 10 network).
The Nittany Lions have lost nine of their last ten games, including six in a row. Ace Baldwin, Jr. leads Penn State at 13.8 points per game but is one of five players averaging double figures. After a tournament appearance in 2023, Penn State has been quite disappointing in 2024-25, including a blowout loss to USC on Tuesday. The Huskies need to win this game or we will all be sad.

Recruiting Corner
This is kind of cheating, but you just have to know about this game. Nikola Bundalo (Husky commit) plays for Prolific Prep who played Utah Prep (#1 recruit AJ Dybantsa’s team) at the Grind Session. But the star was #3 overall recruit and Kansas commit Darryn Peterson who put up 58 points. Yes, 58 points. Dybantsa finished with 49 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal, but it wasn’t enough as Prolific Prep got the 88-86 victory over Utah Prep.
