UW Women's Basketball Notebook: Huskies Win Big While Honoring a Legend
Week of January 20-26: Washington hosts Iowa (One Year Too Late)
Overall Record: 13-6
Big 10 Record: 4-3
Net Ranking: 46
Last Week’s Recap
The Huskies dropped a road game at Michigan in a contest that was not particularly close. After a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, UW never led again and trailed by as many as 20 points. The Wolverines are normally led by the dynamic frosh duo of Olivia Olson and Syla Swords, but senior Jordan Hobbs was the player of the game with 22 points.
On Saturday, the Dawgs returned home to raise Kelsey Plum’s jersey to the rafters and take on a reeling Purdue team. The Huskies jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as Elle Ladine and Sayvia Sellers led the way with 21 and 24 points respectively. The Huskies shot 62.5% from the field in a 87-58 win.
Player of the Week
Sayvia Sellers does it again. The sophomore guard put up 30 points to go with three rebounds on the road against Michigan. In the win over Purdue, Sellers had 24 points and six assists. A great individual week for Sellers.
Stat of the Week
The Husky bench was responsible for 11 total points in two games last week. The Dawgs will need more points from their reserves to compete in a difficult Big 10.
This Coming Week
Washington hosts Iowa on Wednesday, January 22nd for a 6:00 pm tip (Big 10 network).
Imagine the crowd if this game was in 2024 instead of 2025. Instead, the Huskies host an Iowa team that is 2-6 in the Big 10 and losers of five in a row. Transfer Lucy Olsen (from Villanova) leads the Hawkeyes at 15.5 points per game. Olsen (who is a volume shooter) is joined by Hawkeye post player Hannah Stuelke. The former Caitlin Clark teammate puts up 12.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Dalayah Daniels and Tayra Eke will have their hands full with Stuelke on Wednesday.
